Those age 50 and beyond can connect with God and grow in community with one another through Joy Set.

Our seniors enjoy activities including monthly meetings at the church, weekly Bible studies, special events, field trips, cruises, mission trips, and holiday celebrations. These activities present great opportunities to connect with God and grow in community.
During monthly meetings, our seniors worship together for spiritual growth and encouragement. During weekly Bible studies, they meet in homes to study the Bible, pray, and enjoy refreshments and time spent together.
Not only are our seniors ministered to, they minister to others at the church and in the community. At the church, our seniors usher, greet, offer hospitality, help with transportation needs, wedding receptions, funeral meals, teaching, serve in the choir, serve as security, and more. In the area, they conduct chapel services and bible studies at ten of our area retirement villas, rest homes, jails, and hospitals.
We welcome you to visit our senior group!

History

Over Seven Decades of Ministry
Glad Tidings Church has been a fixture in Omaha for more than 75 years. Located atop the hill at 75th and Hickory, Glad Tidings Church is centrally located in the Aksarben area, attracting people from all parts of Omaha. More than the convenient location, people are drawn to Glad Tidings because it’s a place where people from any ethnic or economic background can experience the life changing power of God’s good news.
Small Beginnings
From our small beginnings in 1936 — a tent placed at 31st & Leavenworth — to our present location at 75th & Hickory, Glad Tidings has ministered to thousands of people over the years. The church was officially organized as an Assembly of God in 1937 under Pastor/Evangelist LE King, and our first building was purchased on 18th & Cass Street We moved into a brand new facility on the corner of 75th & Hickory in late 1969 with Pastor John G Walker, our second pastor.
Leading Us Forward
On May 6, 1975, one of Nebraska’s most damaging tornadoes cut through the church property severely damaging the church. The church was rebuilt later that same year and was expanded to seat 750 people in the sanctuary. It also included nursery and toddler facilities among many other renovations. Since then we have been served by a number of amazing men of God — Val Munson, Rick Cole, Al Toledo, Dobie Weasel — each bringing growth to the personality and character of Glad Tidings. In 2007, Pastor Walt DeVries became Lead Pastor.
Beliefs
Stay informed on what's happening at Glad Tidings Church.
- We believe the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God.
- We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years.
- We believe in the blessed hope – the rapture of the Church at Christ’s coming.
- We believe the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.
- We believe regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
- We believe in water baptism by immersion.
- We believe the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.
- We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it.
- We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life.
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation.

Values
Stay informed on what's happening at Glad Tidings Church.
Living and leading by the Bible
This Value includes honoring and obeying God, from the pulpit to Small Group settings to ministry teams. Also, this Value states that the church’s leadership will live their personal lives in a manner that is consistent with the teachings of Scripture.
Demonstrating dependence on God
Nothing can be done apart from God. Glad Tidings is dependent on Him and needs His Spirit’s empowerment to accomplish His purposes. Prayer—both personal and corporate — is one way the church can demonstrate its dependence on God.
Inviting all people
Glad Tidings accepts others because Christ accepted us, even when we didn’t deserve it. The church strives to be welcoming, friendly, and accepting of others—as Christ is to us. This Value, however, is not an end in and of itself. It leads to the development of a community that is one in Christ.
Growing in community
Small Groups are the church’s main ministry focus. Within these groups, the goal is to see the Core Four (Truth, Fellowship, Communion, and Prayer) evident in individuals’ lives. This will naturally happen as discipleship occurs weekly in homes throughout Omaha.
Serving with excellence
All of Glad Tidings is expected to serve other with excellence, from pastors to lay people, nursery workers to greeters, global partners to missionaries. God deserves our best (even if it falls short); Glad Tidings strives for excellence in all it does, as working for God and not for man.
Impacting the world
Glad Tidings is reaching the world through many avenues. Perhaps the most obvious is through international ministries and missions, where the church physically goes somewhere and serves. Beyond that, this Value includes reaching the world by loving and serving internationals in Omaha.

Children can connect with God in ministry geared just for their age groups.

Glad Tidings is a place where kids have fun learning about Jesus in an environment that is both age-appropriate and secure. In the process, children at Glad Tidings build a solid foundation for faith.
While parents enjoy the adult services, they can rest assured that their babies, pre-schoolers and children ages 6 through 12 are receiving personal care in a safe and nurturing environment. Our qualified teachers create a positive church experience that introduces them to the love of Jesus. Children’s classes coincide with all of our regular mid-week and weekend adult services.

Special Announcement From Glad Tidings Tue, Jul 13th

Hello Church Family!
Great news for the Kingdom! On Sunday afternoon, Pastor Jeff and Terri Booth were elected as the new Senior Pastors at Freedom Church! I believe the Lord has heard and answered our prayer, “Not our will, but Your will be done.” Change is never easy, even when God is bringing it. That’s why God encourages us to walk by faith and not by our senses. I have faith that God always does what is best for His Church and His Kingdom. That is why I encourage you to rejoice with me. God’s Kingdom will advance in this city as a result of this step of faith.
Pastor Jeff and Terri’s last Sunday at Glad Tidings will be Sunday, July 25 and his introductory Sunday at Freedom Church will be August 15. This will give Pastor Jeff and Terri a couple weeks of rest and prayer before they begin at Freedom.
Pastor Jeff will be leading worship for the next two Sundays at Glad Tidings and we will have a special farewell celebration for the Booth family on Sunday, July 25. We will be receiving a special love offering for them at that time, to honor them for their 10 years of incredible ministry with us! Please come prepared to honor them with your giving and gifts.
At Glad Tidings, we are going to continue to worship God! Worship is about giving our Lord all the honor and glory due to His name. My vision is to continue to develop an excellent team of musicians, singers, and worship leaders. I’ve asked Carissa Carter to lead this team as well as lead us in worship during our Sunday and Wednesday services. Let’s continue to worship God with all that is within us!
Worshipping with you,
Pastor Walt
